Shaping Season 3: How Your Feedback Transformed Oro Dance Competition

Season 3 of the Oro Dance Competition is taking shape thanks to the voices of those who make it special—our dancers, studio directors, parents, and families. Every suggestion, comment, and conversation after Seasons 1 and 2 has helped us improve the competition experience. This post shares the key feedback we received, the changes we made, and the exciting updates you will see throughout Season 3. It’s our way of showing appreciation for your input and our commitment to listening and growing together.

What We Heard After Season 1

After the season 1, we reached out to our community to gather honest feedback. We wanted to understand what worked well and where we could improve. Here are some of the main points shared by dancers, studio directors, and families:

• Clearer communication about schedules and results

Many participants wanted more timely updates on event times and competition results. Some felt last-minute changes caused confusion.

• More variety in performance categories

Dancers and studios asked for additional categories to showcase different styles and skill levels.

• Improved judging transparency

Parents and directors expressed interest in understanding how scores were given and what judges looked for.

• Better backstage organization

Dancers and parents noted that backstage areas could be more organized to reduce stress and delays.

• Enhanced safety and comfort measures

Families appreciated the safety protocols but suggested improvements in seating and climate control.

This feedback gave us a clear direction for changes that would make the competition smoother, fairer, and more enjoyable.

How We Improved Communication

We took the feedback about communication seriously. For Season 2, we introduced several new measures:

• Real-time schedule updates through a mobile app

Studios can perform changes through the Dance Comp Genie before the registration closes.

• Weekly schedule summaries

Each week leading up to the competition, studios and families receive an email with the competition schedule.

• Clear signage and information desks at venues

We added more visible signs and staffed information points to help attendees navigate the event.

These steps have already made a difference in Season 2 events, with many praising the ease of staying informed.

Expanding Performance Categories

ORO Dance Competition welcomes a wide variety of performance styles, giving every dancer the opportunity to showcase their unique talents. Categories include Acro, Ballet, Character, Clogging, Contemporary, Jazz, Lyrical, Musical Theater, Modern, Open, Pom, Pointe, Gold Level, Specialty, Tap, Vocal, Hip Hop, and International.

Group routines are divided by size to ensure fair competition: Small Groups consist of 4–9 dancers, Large Groups include 10–19 dancers, and Lines feature 20 or more dancers.

This diverse range of categories and group divisions allows dancers of all ages, styles, and experience levels to compete in an environment that celebrates creativity, technique, and performance excellence.

Making Judging More Transparent

Understanding how judges score performances was a common concern. We responded by:

• Publishing judging criteria online before the competition

Everyone can review the judging criteria for each category in the Rules & Regulations section at OroDance.com.

• Performance Feedback

After each performance, every judge uploads personalized feedback to the DanceComp Genie (DCG) platform, allowing dancers and studio directors to review their critiques after the event.

• Score breakdowns

Studios can review detailed score breakdowns for each routine through the DCG platform.

This transparency helps dancers improve and builds trust in the judging process.

Improving Backstage Experience

Backstage areas can be hectic, so we focused on making them more organized and comfortable:

• Designated warm-up zones

Separate spaces for stretching and rehearsing reduce crowding.

• Clear backstage schedules

Dancers know exactly when and where to be, minimizing waiting times.

• More volunteers to assist

Additional staff help guide dancers and manage flow.

These changes reduce stress and help dancers focus on their performances.

Enhancing Safety and Comfort

Safety remains a top priority. We improved seating arrangements to allow more space between groups and upgraded climate control systems in venues to keep everyone comfortable. We also increased sanitation stations and ensured all areas meet health guidelines.
